Students, parents/caregivers, educators, and community members are able to identify the types of afterschool programs that best meet the needs and desires of their community, rather than reserving these decisions for district administrators.
Members of the school community are able to recommend a variety of afterschool programs. Each school community is different and programming should address the unique needs of that school community.
The need for student afterschool programming is universal, but the amount of need is increased in schools with more low-income parents working multiple jobs, or more multilingual families with language needs. Additionally, access to enrichment activities for young people is highly dependent on family income.
