Asma Abdi

Asma Abdi is a student at San Diego City College where she is pursuing her Associates degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences with an emphasis on Social and Behavioral Sciences. She was born and raised in San Diego, California and is a daughter of immigrants who sought refuge here in the early 90’s. Her experience as a Somali-American Black woman and first-generation, low-income student has pushed her to become a change agent in her community. She has volunteered with local organizations such as Pillars of the Community and San Diego Refugee Tutoring. Currently, she is working to coordinate the 3rd Annual Social Justice and Education Conference at San Diego City College. She is also a community organizer spearheading rallies, protests, and is heavily involved within her community. Asma plans to transfer to a 4-year university where she is undecided on what she wants to study but aims to continue her community involvement and activism.
