BUDGET ADVOCACY

City of San Diego

Mayor Todd Gloria has undermined the city’s progress toward creating a more equitable San Diego by making one-time money maneuvers and irresponsible cuts that will disproportionately affect low-income and BIPOC communities, including, but not limited to:

  • Eliminating the Eviction Prevention Program
  • Eliminating the Eviction Notice Registry
  • Cutting youth programming
  • Canceling the Youth Care and Development Program,
  • Canceling contributions to the Community Equity Fund
  • Eliminating the Office of Immigrant Affairs
  • Gutting the Climate Equity Fund

Stand with us at the budget hearing on May 1st at 6 pm to demand action from the Mayor and City Council! Let’s say loud and clear that the city budget must prioritize keeping people housed, addressing climate change, securing good jobs for all, and reversing systemic inequities.

County of San Diego

Over the last few months, CPI and our partners in the Invest in San Diego Families (ISDF) coalition have been calling on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to create a public, transparent, and community-oriented process to find the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the County.

Check out our recent Op-Ed in the San Diego Union-Tribune co-written with our partner, Youth Will.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

City of San Diego Mayoral Candidate Forum

In February, CPI and our partners in the Community Budget Alliance hosted a San Diego Mayoral Candidate Forum. The Mayor holds a lot of power over the City of San Diego budget and is a key decision-maker when it comes to what resources and supports our communities can access. Four of the five mayoral candidates joined us, and the panel was moderated by Voice of San Diego’s Andrea Lopez-Villafaña.

If you missed it, you can watch the recording of the forum here.

New Local and State Laws for Workers

Several new worker protections and wage increases are going into effect in 2024. Check out our recent blog to read more about all the new laws that will go into effect this year.

Let's Go! San Diego

CPI has endorsed a countywide ballot initiative on the November 2024 ballot to fund transportation improvements that will make life better for San Diego County residents.

This measure would outline and fund many of the 10 Transit Lifelines including increased bus frequency, expanded transit infrastructure, and youth opportunity passes. It also outlines funding for “increased safety and efficiency on our most burdened existing roads and highways; repair aging bridges, local roads, and rail lines; and reduce air pollution to improve our environment and our quality of life.
