Students for Economic Justice (SEJ)

It’s the last week of the SEJ program – time flies! Please join us next week, August 5th at 5:30pm, for the virtual celebration of CPI’s Students for Economic Justice Class of 2021 graduates! You’ll have the opportunity to hear from each fellow and learn more about what they learned and worked on this summer.

Want to help sustain the SEJ program and support the next generation of social justice leaders in San Diego? Learn more about sponsoring or donating to SEJ at: cpisandiego.org/sej/donate.

That’s a wrap on this year’s budget campaigns at the City and County of San Diego. We’re so grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s budget process through our Community Budget Alliance and Invest in San Diego Families coalitions.

If you missed it, check out our recent blog posts summing up all that we won together this year. Thank you for continuing to show up for a People’s Budget. Stay tuned for updates for next year’s campaign!

“As an SEJ Fellow, I have been reading Mariame Kaba’s We Do This ‘Til We Free Us and it has really allowed me to think about the prison system in a new light, specifically as a system that has roots in systemic racism and inequality. More than anything it made me realize that we shouldn’t be depending on the police to address problems created by poverty, inequality and racism; instead we should focus more time, effort, and money into programs that provide housing, education, health care, and money to the people and communities who are not getting enough of them.”
– Jesus-Martin Gallegos-Muñoz, Students for Economic Justice Fellow

“The news about Teamsters’ nationwide effort to unionize Amazon is HUGE and energizing. So much possibility for workers’ rights and changing people’s lives. Power to the people!”
– Blair Overstreet, Organizer
