Public Safety is Housing for ALL

At the Tuesday, June 2 City Council Meeting, over 200 San Diegans called in to support the Community Budget Alliance’s demand for an Emergency Rental Assistance Program and hundreds more submitted online comments. Thank you to all who showed up and let the City Council know what San Diego needs! The City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to pass the Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

This is just the first step though. No money has been allocated to the program and funding must be diverted from policing to this program. This program must also include protections for renters and not allow corporate landlords to take advantage of the relief while raising rents, evicting tenants and leaving housing in uninhabitable conditions. The program must also support and provide funding for our undocumented communities who are left out of other federal and state relief efforts.

Let’s continue to tell City Council that Public Safety=Housing for All! San Diego City Council votes on the FY2021 budget on Monday, June 8. This is our last chance to call in and demand a People’s Budget. Make your voice heard!
